Fed: Labor millionaire family payment plan thin edge: Howard

JOHN HOWARD says a Labor proposal to strip millionaire families of a special family
tax benefit .. is only the thin edge of the wedge.

Ahead of a speech tonight on the government's handling of family tax benefits and the
tax system .. the prime minister says Labor would strip family payments from people who
couldn't be considered rich.

He's told Southern Cross Radio .. restricting the payment to families under 250 thousand
dollars combined income .. would only save the government six million dollars a year.

Mr HOWARD says the family tax benefit system will stay under his government.
