NSW: Developers do not dictate government policy: Sartor
New South Wales Planning Minister FRANK SARTOR says people won't lose their homes to
developers .. under proposed compulsory acquisition laws .. unless an urban renewal project
is in the works.
The state government is under fire for draft legislation .. which critics say is designed
to benefit private property developers.
Mr SARTOR says legislation has long existed for the government to resume land.
He says the draft legislation will clarify existing laws .. and prevent owners from
holding out for more money.
But opposition spokesman BRAD HAZZARD says the changes are designed to acquire land
and then sell it to developers at a lower price.
He says Labor's creating a system that is right for back-handers.
Greens planning spokeswoman SYLVIA HALE says the legislation strengthens the likelihood
of corrupt donations from developers to the ALP.
