Man plucked to safety as flat is hit by blaze.

A firefighter pulled a man to safety from a flat fire.

The man was hauled to safety after he became stuck at the window of his Beaumont Close flat in Bury St Edmunds last Friday.

Sixteen firefighters tackled the blaze, which broke out at about 12.20pm. They had to use a ladder to save the man from his burning home.

Henry Landis, assistant divisional fire officer, said: "When we arrived at the scene we very quickly became aware someone was still in the flat.

"We then saw a gentleman hanging out of the window and he seemed to have problems trying to open it fully."
