Qld: Woman dies from dengue fever

A Torres Strait Island woman who died of dengue fever while being flown to Cairns is
believed to be the first Queenslander to die of the virus in 100 years.

The 40-year-old woman from Thursday Island died last night after being airlifted by
the Royal Flying Doctor Service from the island's hospital.

Tropical Public Health says the woman's believed to be the first Queenslander to die
of dengue fever since an outbreak in Brisbane in 1904.

Since November, 214 cases of the mosquito-borne virus have been recorded in the Torres Strait.
