WA:Great white shark lurking off WA coast
PERTH, Dec 11 AAP - A great white shark has been spotted in waters off Perth's northern suburbs.
A caller named John phoned in to Fairfax radio station 6PR in Perth just after 10am
on Sunday (WST) to say a large great white shark had been circling his fishing boat about
three nautical miles (5.5km) off Mindarie Keys.
"I'm in a 19-foot boat and this thing's the size of my boat circling it," John said.
The caller said he'd been fishing at Staggie Reef when he noticed a big fin in the water.
"I got a hook up with a fish and I looked over and there was this big (shark) next
to me circling the boat," he said.
"I went to all the dive boats straight away to get them out of the water."
John said he had made a video of the shark on his mobile phone and pledged to send
it in to the radio station's website.
Earlier on Sunday, Scarborough Beach was closed for 45 minutes after a shark sighting there.
The popular swimming beach, which is about 25km south of Mindarie Keys, was reopened
about 10.25am (WST).
There have been four fatal shark attacks in Western Australia since August last year.
